Lets Talk about Caching

Some of you have maybe just found some caches and others have been looking for years.

But, how many of us know the rules and /or Guidlines for caching here is SC?

Well, we are here to help and maybe even learn a thing or two along the way.

DID YOU KNOW ?

You may not put a cache on a street sign.......But they do in NC?

You may not put a cache in a cemetary.......But they did up in LA?

You may not bury a cache.....But I found one in another state?

Well you can do a lot of things, but in SC we have rules that other states don't.  There are also guidlines put in force by Groundspeak on caching in gereral.  Some places may skirt around these rules, but we want to help you know the rules here in SC and the Pee Dee. We want good hard caching just like everywhere else, and we don't want to be the ones that have trouble coming our way.

From our reviewer here is some good info. to follow:

The great majority of what cachers need to know about caching issues in South Carolina is located here: (click here)

Each time a cache page is submitted it needs a reviewer note explaining:

1) the property it is placed on, and if it is at a business, permission from the business owner/manager/security personnel.
2) the type of cache container and how it is marked on the outside.
3) how the cache is hidden. Caches should NEVER be buried. Holes should NEVER be drilled into trees, and loose zipties don't do damage to trees like nails and screws can.

Cache pages without this information will be sent back with a request for it. Including it up front makes reviews quicker.

One other thing about property ownership. All property in the United States is owned by someone or some entity. Public property needs further explanation.

Have you heard people talking about GSAK but weren't sure what it was?  Well, here's a little information you may be interested in.

GSAK

( Geocaching Swiss Army Knife)

GSAK is the all in one Geocaching and waypoint management tool. Major features include: Multiple databases, sending/receiving waypoints to GPSr, Google maps, conversion to many mapping formats, PDA output (including CacheMate support), HTML output, extensive searching, macro support, backup and restore, distance/direction from other waypoints (including caches, locations, post codes) and much more. GSAK only runs on Windows operating systems (2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8)

We will review this type of information and more because we want to help get people out on the right path and make this a fun time for everyone, so let us know where we can help.

Post any questions you may have when you click on the "will attend" on this page, and we will work on having a answer when you get here.

We will have a Phone-A-Friend list available to help you on your way caching in the Pee Dee.

Also available at this event is information about the Florence County Challenge, and we will have passports and coins available for those who wish to start or finish the challenge to collect the coin.
