A nice easy cache in a lovely area of Dawlish. Approachable on very good flat footpaths and also wheelchair accessible from one end of path. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN PEN.
Dawlish is such a lovely place and having been here only once before this last week I did not know the story of the black swans here. Being new to bus driving, I was down here several times in the week route learning with a colleague and he told me all about them. With a few minutes waiting time here one afternoon I soon spotted the pair with cygnets - how lovely! This inspired me to put this cache out and reminded me of a T Rex song with a similar title. On returning today to place this cache I saw six or seven of these Australian beauties that were originally recorded on the Brook in the early 1900s and then they disappeared between the two World Wars. In the late 40's a Captain C.R.S. Pitman who was a game warden in Uganda, presented a pair of black swans to the town in memory of his parents who lived here. Black swans have been on the Brook ever since and for over forty years, have been on the Dawlish town emblem.
