Granny Dunn Graveyard is found out in the woods in a very remote area in northern Tuscaloosa County.
There is very limited phone service here. The roads are in good shape except for the woods road up to the graveyard. There is a gate that you must drive through to get to this graveyard. At the gate is a sign that warns that it will be closed for certain months of the year. I have been working on the nearby road for 2 years and have yet to find this gate closed. The rust on the gate and the lack of locks on it should mean you will have no issues with access.
The graveyard is the final resting place for members of the Dunn family, a few of the Blackwell family and 3 slaves of the Dunns.
There are several rock tent type grave coverings; and many rocks marking the graves of others.
One person buried here was Winton Dunn, who was a veteran of the Civil War. He enlisted as a Private in Fowler’s Battery of Alabama Light Artillery. During the war he was promoted to Corporal, and was discharged in April, 1865.
