About this Series
Beachies' Bistro is a series of puzzle caches located in and around Peterborough with (if you haven't guessed already) a foodie theme. There are nine courses - see the menu below. Each course has a cache to find. In addition, there is a bonus cache ("The Bill"), which can be found using information located in all of the courses.
The puzzles are not meant to bemuse. We have pitched them with varying difficulties so that hopefully everyone can enjoy as much as possible of this series. The difficulty level, as you might expect, increases as you go through the meal. Some of the later, more difficult, puzzles have clues located in the geocheckers of earlier caches in the series; these are to assist you where needed, although all can be solved using the information on the cache page. (with the exception of the bonus, because the relevant information is contained within the caches in the series)
We have designed the series such that you can work out the puzzle elements at home before you leave (with the exception of the bonus), and pick up all of the physical caches in one day. Or you can do it in bite-size portions, it's up to you!
We would ask however that you do not leave any spoilers in your logs, even encrypted, including pictures. Please don't spoil the meal for future cachers!!
Please take either a notebook & pen or a camera phone with you so that you can take a record of the bonus information written in the caches.
The Fish Course
You shall have a fishy, on a little dishy... some DOVER sole....
The Puzzle: "Who ate the fish?"
At a recent caching event, five cachers chatted for hours about all things caching. From the clues below, can you determine where each cacher sat, what their preferred style of cache is, their recent caching-related bad luck episode (don't we all have those??!), their caching vehicle, and what they ate at the event?
- The cacher eating sandwiches is sitting next to the Wherigo cacher.
- The puzzle cache fan sat next to the cacher who didn't eat at the event.
- The driver of the 4x4 is sat on the chair to the right of the motorcyclist.
- Fred had a Steak lunch.
- Ron is at the chair on the right.
- Harry loves extreme caches.
- The Church Micro lover had pizza.
- The puzzle cache afficionado is sat next to a cacher who caused a bomb scare at a cache once.
- The person at the centre chair once had a GPS that ran out of battery power at a cache.
- George drives to caches in a saloon car.
- The trail fan forgot their pen at a cache once.
- The Wherigo fan walks to all their caches.
- The 4x4 driver was badly stung by nettles at a cache once.
- Ron is sat next to the cacher who arrives at all their caches by bicycle.
- Hermione had a bad experience once being chased by cows through a field.
The descriptions of where people are sat are told from the perspective of the barman, who from his station at the bar can see all five cachers sat round a table from left to right.
Finding this cache
Once you've worked out who is who, you just need to plug the numbers into this equation to find the cache:
N 52° DG.CB(A+D) W 000° (G-B)E.AF(C+F)
Where:
A = who ate the fish? (number of letters in name)
B = the bomb scare causer's position (1=left, 5= right)
C = who is the puzzle cache fan? (number of letters in name)
D = the church micro fan's position (1=left, 5= right)
E = who drives the 4x4? (number of letters in name)
F = Fred's position (1=left, 5= right)
G = who ate the pizza? (number of letters in name)
"Tasting notes"
Please park considerately, safely and legally.
The final cache site is not suitable for wheelchair users I'm afraid.
Stealth will be required at final location at certain times.
We recommend you confine your search for the final cache to daylight hours.
Please bring your own pen.
And finally, the "check"...
