St Thomas Church, East Shefford is a redundant Church of England parish church. It is in the care of the Churhes Conservation Trust and is a Grade 1 listed building.
The origins of the church pre-date the Norman era but the earliest part of the church is the nave that dates from the 11th century. The chancel was built sometime in the 13th century and the south chapel was added in the 16th century.
The church is built of flint and stone, with some parts of the walls being rendered. The major feature of the interior is the double effigial alabaster monument to Sir Thomas Fettiplace (d 1442) and his wife Lady Beatrice (d 1447). Lady Beatrice was a Royal Princess of Portugal. On the interior walls of the church are many wall paintings, the earliest of which date back to 1130-1150.
Parking is on Newbury Road and is clearly labelled 'Church Parking'. From here, go through the pedestrian gate and follow the gravel track over the river. Take the first right. These are all public footpaths even though they look like someones private drive. At the published coordinates you will need to locate the key to the church.
