A regular sized cache on The Kerry Way just outside Sneem
Sneem (or 'An tSnaidhm') means 'The Knot' in English, and is a small town on the Kerry Way about an hours drive SW from Killarney. Various explanations for the name have been given, including a reference to the bridge linking the two town squares, a knot-like swirling in the river, and as a 'knot' on The Kerry Way walking route. It has the usual pubs, bars, restaurants and tourist attractions - plenty of places to wander around before or after finding the cache. Particularly striking views can be found looking downriver from the central bridge in the middle of town.
This cache was placed in June 2013 to commemorate the World Record Attempt for The O'Sullivan Gathering, to gather as many members of the same family in one area as possible. We visited recently and whilst caching around the Kerry Way and Killarney noticed that there were no caches in or near Sneem, so decided to rectify that.
You can find GZ for the cache on the Kerry Way walking route, and it is readily accessible from both directions. It's about an hours round trip from town if walking. From the river / metal bridge direction it can even be done as a cache and dash, though that would be a shame as its such a lovely area to explore. The metal bridge you see nearby replaced a rather more basic rope bridge a while ago, and is somewhat safer, though still a little scary to cross whilst the river is raging! Take care whilst in the area as it can get wet and slippery. Obviously it can be rather muddy after rain, so appropriate footwear is needed!
Please replace the cache exactly as found and do not disturb anything else in the area when searching. Note that you do not need to leave the track or cross the wall in order to find the cache.
At the time of placing a badge for FTF was left, as well as a TB and several other goodies.
Cache will be maintained by family who live in the area
