A beautiful part of Australian history in a beautiful scenery.
Australia used to be much closer to the South Pole, so its climate was extremely cold. Australia was back then, part of a much larger continent called Gondwana, which has since broken up into several continents.
During Gondwanan winters, ice sheets moved in a north-westerly direction over this part of Australia. As the ice advanced, it picked up and carried pieces of rock of all sizes. Rocks were dumped as the ice sheets melted.
These rocks here, were picked up, moved then stranded far from home.
To locate these rocks, park at the marina then take a stroll along the Northern trail located in Port Vincent, enjoy the sights and the family time that this trail has to offer, and hopefully spot a dolphin or two that inhabit this area.
You can also view these rocks from the lookout situated half way around the Northern trail.
To log this cache you need to send me a private message me and receive approval from me before making any logs on the cache page, (the questions have changed since council removed the original sign and replaced it with a dreamtime sign but for history sake these rocks came from Victor Harbor, 120km away and they travelled here about 270millon years ago.)-
1/ What are these rocks called in the story by Quenten Agius?
2/ How is it Quenten said they travelled here?
and
3/ explain the differences between these rocks and the local rocks, and if the rocks are different in any particular way, ie are they eroding faster or slower? do they seem harder or softer than the local rocks?
I will delete all logs without notice that do not meet all 3 of these requirements.
PLEASE DO NOT PUT ANY ANSWERS ON THE CACHE PAGE WHEN LOGGING THIS CACHE!
Photos of you and the rocks are most welcome and would be appreciated.
