Geocache Description:

This gathering of hearty hardy canoe and kayaking geocachers will take place at the approximate half way point of the James River float between CraigsCreek (aka Eagle Rock) and Horseshoe Bend. 

You will have a chance to explore the shoreline here,  swap stories, get some feeling back into your legs, and build up some resolve to complete the rest of the trip.  Because there is only one way out, and that's under your own power.  You may even learn a thing or two from a guest lecturer, if he happens to attend!

Estimated time of gathering is 4:00-5:00 PM.  Since this depends on float times, make sure you post a will attend so no one gets left behind.

A canoe or kayak is required to participate in this event,  there may be other methods but they are not recommended.  Rentals are available, check out the local river outfitters.

Craig Creek to Horseshoe Bend
Distance: 13 miles
This (5 – 6 hours) float has numerous Class I rapids and a few very easy Class II rapids along the way. The trip is the most remote of all of the trips in the Upper James River Water Trail and was ranked in the June 2009 edition of Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine as one of the best Class I trips in the Southeast. A 10 mile portion of this trip has been designated a “Virginia Scenic River" section. This trip also includes some of the most impressive remains of the James & Kanawha River Canal.. This trip makes a great full day float but be sure to bring food and water and remember to pack out what you pack in.
