The Nordic ancestry and the Fort Ransom area’s unique topography brought an alpine sport to the valley. This spot marks the site of a ski jump constructed in the 1920’s. Ski jumping tournaments were held here on Sunday afternoons. This cache is located in the middle of the run. The skiers started their run near the top of the hill. They picked up speed as they came down the hill on the graded area around the cache. The scaffolding of the ramp began in the area just down-slope from the cache. They would launch off the end of the ramp and land down close to the stream that runs along the bottom of the ravine. The skiers had to hike back up the hill to jump again. On warmer winter days, the path would become so packed and slippery that the climb to the top of the hill was quite difficult. Large crowds of people came out to cheer on the jumpers on pleasant Sunday afternoons.
