This cache bears the name "North West Mounted Police" for the home of Jasper's Municipal Library. Constructed in 1926, the library building housed the Jasper district headquarters of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Designed and erected by the National Parks Branch, the rustic-looking detachment office and barracks was finished with stucco and rockwork (river rock). The structure included an office, messroom, living quarters, bedrooms and recreation rooms, a kitchen and cells. The RCMP used this building until 1974, when they relocated their offices to larger and more modern quarters, and Jasper's Municipal Library moved in. (A Walk in the Past, Merna Forster). After 5 1/2 years of reconstruction the library has finally returned to this facility June '16). This geocache consists of a logbook and an adjacent travelbug hotel, the 1st (and only) travelbug hotel in Jasper National Park. Trackable items only please (travelbugs and geocoins only). No other trading items IAW guidelines for caching in Canada's national parks. The concept for this cache comes from "Get a clue at your library" GC149ZE in Shoshone Idaho, which is on Hwy 93 which begins here in Jasper and proceeds south to Wickenburg Arizona. Be sure to visit this cache if you travel south on Hwy 93.
