This cache is one in a series of "Tucked Away Treasures" inviting you to discover scenes of nature easily overlooked in the State College area. It is intended to be easy to find. The hint below is a giveaway.
The area not far from this cache was once considered an eyesore--a storm water detention basin closed off by a barbed wire fence and littered with plants growing up through the chain links. But hard work by the State College Borough and community volunteers plus funding from some state grants has transformed the area into the Westerly Parkway Wetland Education Center.
There is a nice walking trail around the perimeter with benches, educational signs and plantings. There are butterfly gardens and upland and lowland wetland areas. Wildlife spotted during a recent visit included ducks, butterflies and groundhogs.
The cache is located near to but outside of the wetlands education area. After finding the cache it is hoped you'll enter the wetlands area, walk the trail and enjoy the plantings and wildlife. The trail can be visited during daylight hours only. After heavy rains, the area is closed.
There is handicapped accessible parking at the Oneida Street entrance to the wetlands. The listed parking coordinates take you to free general parking across the street from the wetlands.
You're looking for a micro log within a small container in a hollow at the base of a tree covered by a rock. There is no room for trade items. Please bring a pen or pencil. Because of the tree cover, my GPS was bouncing around. So I've made the giveaway hint very explicit.
Congratulations to engineco3 for the FTF!!and the carels for the STF!!
