Geocache Description:

The Hall is an Elizabethan property on the banks of the River Calder, which originated as a Pele Tower in 14th century built by the Shuttleworth family of Hapton. It was then incorporated into a house, the foundation stone of which was laid in 1600. It was lived in by various members of the Shuttleworth family from then on.
The property was gifted to the public in 1970 and houses collections of needlework, lace and costume.

The grounds are open and free of charge all year, but the house is only open in the summer months, Wednesdays to Sundays, noon till 5pm. The cafe opens at 11.00am. There is also a carpark and a picnic area and gardens. Extensive tidying up is taking place in the undergrowth, probably due to the removal of rhodedendron bushes which are causing disease problems in our countryside .
At the time of laying the caches the paths were dry, but they are often muddy for much of the year.
Please look for caches discreetly, as there are always muggles about, and I would like them to last for a good length of time. None of the caches require you to trample on wildflowers, and are located just off the paths.
I have included easy clues so that you can find and rehide quickly in this busy place.
This cache  on a path with good views of the Hall. Bring your own pen.
Placed with the kind permission of The National Trust (Gawthorpe Hall).
