Remembering Westdale Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

NinjaRock: Looks like sometime on the 14th or 15th all of the trees in the old yard were cut down to make room for... whatever it is they're flattening the space for.

This one has had a nice long run, but there's nowhere for it to go now. I'll look for a new location nearby in the next few weeks.

Happy caching!

Geocache Description:

No more pencils, no more books.

Westdale Park Public School 1958-2012.

Built in 1958, Westdale Park sadly closed its doors at the end of the 2011-2012 school year, and its former students now have to ride the bus to a school far, far away. Gone are the happy, shouting voices at recess, gone are the bells, gone all of the playground equipment. Westdale's classrooms and halls stand empty. But there are still plenty of memories.

This is our first placed cache and we thought it fitting to draw a little attention to the old school. Three kids in our family went to Westdale and it makes us sad that the school is so empty now. Please feel to post new or old pictures of the school and its grounds.

The cache is a small film canister and should be pretty easy to find--not so much hidden as out of the way--we decided we'd like to put a really easy one out for people to walk across the school grounds and just grab. Parking is easy as the school lot almost never has cars in it anymore or you can park in the bus lane with very little fear of a school bus sneaking up behind you.

Update: the portables are gone now and the main building has had a lot of upgrades in the conversion to an annex to the hospital, but the cache is still easily accessible.

Congratulations on the FTF for AaronHaynes!
