Logues Bush Walk (Auckland) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Curglaff: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

If you've got a spare hour or two in the Wellsford area, we recommend heading out to Logues Bush.

It is a ~2.5km stroll around diverse native forest. The gentle climb will take you from the company of large totara along the stream to kauri and taraire on the slopes. Look out for interesting epiphytes and large rata vines. It is also home to the largest puriri we have ever seen. Please be sure to scrub your boots if you have been in kauri forest to avoid spreading the kauri die-back disease.

Logues Bush

Logues Bush was bought from the Logue family in 1983 with contributions from the Queen Elizabeth II Trust, Department of Lands and Survey, Rodney District Council and the Forest and Bird Society. It is now managed by DOC. There are two tracks around this reserve. You'll need to take the big loop to find this cache. The cache is a small sistema container with the usual log and swag. Please bring your own pen. Due to poor coverage the coordinates may be a wee bit out so keep your eye out for a great specimen of our large shrub epiphyte puka perched on what is left of a once-enormous host tree - see spoiler picture.

Logues Bush is around 10km from Wellsford off Day Road. Day Road is a gravel road so caution is required. The track is very easy to follow, but we recommend good shoes, especially when it is slippery.

Enjoy!!!
