Geocache Description:

The Telephone Museum is a labor of love for a dedicated group of telephone history aficionados. Visitors can see old (but still working) switchboards and hear the clickity-clack of old switching stations.  This is a fascinating collection of telephone memorabilia and a glimpse back into a time that many have only seen in movies.  For more information go to: www.thetelephonemuseum.org    Easy park and grab cache.

The original cache owner, EMSDANEL, received permission to place this cache back in July of 2008. Then he completely forgot to submit it for approval and publication! (Egads!) Five years later, he drove by the museum after finding several new caches along the Winkumpaugh Road and noticed several cars in the yard. They turned out to be board members of the museum and very kindly renewed his permission for a cache here. You do not need to go into the museum to log the cache.

This is an excellent example of the benefits of geocaching - to bring you to a very interesting location that you may not have known existed. It's not just a number to add to your cache finds total, rather, it is an experience to remember. EMSDANEL almost named this cache "Ernestine"... (Who remembers where that name comes from?) Enjoy the cache!  Oh...the neighbor across the road is aware of the cache, no worries there.

(Note: The museum is open July through September on Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and other days by appointment or chance. There is a fee. To ensure a volunteer guide can accommodate your group, please schedule your tour in advance by contacting the museum at switchboard@nemot.org or 207-667-9491. Include your name, phone or email, and the number of people in your party.)
