Geocache Description:

a walk to the embankment about 3km return from parking.

parking at the road it is about 400m to a railway bridge you can go under this there is a small gate with a chain please rehook chain. It is then a futher 900m to the cache. from here you can see the wreck of the Vought Corsair R Serial no. JT693 which was based at eglinton. on the 9th october 1944 the aircraft had an engine fire and the pilot sub lt. C. H. Schwenger of the Royal Canadian Navy made a forced landing on the mudflats. it can be seen at low tide approx coord are n55 4.650 w7 0.972. the ponds, along with the foyle mudflats are areas of scientific interest, special protection areas and RAMAR sites. the cache i did consider placing cache on the wreck and making it very difficult as it is completely submerged at high tide, but alas you can keep your feet dry. it is a medium tab lock box.
