While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

Geocaches which have not been maintained or the owner has not responded will not be taken out of the archive

Geocache Description:

"Fylkesgrensa" or "the county line". From here you get a good view over a wide fjord with many smaller "branch" fjords. Worth a visit. The Vinje fjord (Vinjefjorden) used to be one of the most fish abundant fjords in the country. Deep sea trawlers used to trawl all the way in the fjord in 1970s, though, and the fjord still struggles to recover after 30 years of trawling ban.

For oss som kommer fra Sør-Trøndelag, er altså dette punktet starten på det mystiske fylket Møre og Romsdal, hvis du kjører kysstamveien E39. Et fylke som rommer tre gamle fogdegrenser og en fascinerende og, må jeg få si, underlig intern debatt. Det er likevel ikke tvil om at dette fylket inneholder noen utrolige landskap, fjell, gamle handelssteder og overlevelseshistorier. Halsa er første møte med denne delen av landet. Nyt det.

ENGLISH:


For us whom come for Sør-Trøndelag county, this is the first encounter with Møre and Romsdal county. A county known for being politically and somewhat culturally divided into three parts: Nordmøre (Kristianund as the largest city), Romsdal (Molde as the largest city) and Sunnmøre (Ålesund as the largest city). Three colleges. Three hospitals. Three airports. Three identitites. Three strong voices on how this county is to be managed.

There is no doubt, however, that this county has some of the country's most spectacular scenery, fjords, mountains and old settlements. Strong Viking presence during the Viking age. Old cultured landscapes and amazing island settlements. Take your time here. It is worth it. Halsa is you first encounter when arriving from north. Or it is your last chance to enjoy the World's no. 1 fjord county. Either way. Enjoy!

Halsa

Halsa has it's pluses and minuses. Great nature. Beautiful scenery. Excellent hiking possibilities. Easy access to the main road along the Western coast (E39). Still, population is declining. Urbanization has hit Halsa harder than many other municipalities, even though people leaving for the cities is a problem in many rural areas in Norway.

Different areas of Halsa have very different identities. Valsøyfjord is an old industrial area and used to be the largest industrial centre in Møre & Romsdal county. Here, people from all over the world used to come to find work. The labour movement was very strong. Traditional boat building still stands strong here.
The other side of the Municipality (Halsa and Halsanaustan) was more proned to farming the land, land ownership and running timber industries. The labour movement was, therefore, not very strong here. One can still sense "remains" of that difference today.

a Halsa is not spectacular at first glance (besides the scenery), but it is a very "honest" piece of rural Norway. And, as with most things, once you get to know the place, it actually is quite spectacular and has a very interesting history.

I therefore found making a kind of Halsa themed series was a fun cache project. There are/will be caches with short snippets of local history all over the municipality. At least one for each "grend" (village) and noticable site. If you are new to Norway, this example of a typical Norwegian municipality, everyday rural life and varied scenery, could make for an interesting experience and sightseeing.

Halsa has 1595 inhabitants and 300 sq. km. land mass, whereof 8 sq. km. is water. Halsa is also known for being the place where the world famous Killer whale "Keiko" swam to and stayed until he died some years ago.

The "Halsa" chapter in every cache decription will be identical.
