Geocache Description:

This is a small lock n' lock hidden in the edge of the woods at Hanover Cemetery. Started with some fun goodies mostly for the kids. Please don't put any alcohol related items such as bottle caps in this cache.

Decided to open this up to all cachers so it can be found more. Hope you enjoy it. Being in service to the community is very important to my father, so he decided that it was important for someone to preserve and document images from Hanover cemetery. "Someone" turned out to be my brother and me. We spent a couple hours every summer morning riding our bikes out to the cemetery, drawing each stone and what was written on them. The next summer was spent re-copying the stones neatly and documenting their locations in the cemetery. The next summer my brother was gone to college, so I was on my own looking through micro-film trying to find any obituaries that I could from the cemetery's "residents." What we ended up with was a book that is now at the Hanover College Library which people still use to find dead relatives over 20 years later. While the project wasn't delightful to me as a teenager, I am incredibly proud of the work my brother and I did. I recently took my children and my brother's children to the library to see the book we made and they were very impressed. As you look for the cache, please take a moment to read some stones. There is one with short-hand, several with foreign languages, and some of people I love. My parents will be buried here, and, since they are such good planners, their stone is already there. I would also recommend you continue to drive down the road past the cemetery. There were only two houses up there when I was a kid, so we would take picnics up to eat up among some of the big trees. Everything has changed so much, but I still love the area and the view of the river.

My brother and I joke about our "fat angel." Somehow in our drawing and copying of her she put on several pounds.


Now you can see the angel in her true trim figure. The size is also obviously not proportional; we were more concerned with the words on the stone and just having a minor representation of the stone's distinguishing feature.
