I'm a big movie buff and "The Shawshank Redemption" was always a favorite. This movie and the Green Mile were two prison themed movies penned by the horror author Steven King. Shawshank's main charaters were played by Tim Robbins (Andy) and Morgan Freeman (Red). This cache is a tribute to Andy Dufresne (Robbins) the lead character in the movie who fancies himself a "rockhound": an amatuer geologist. With his trusty little rock hammer he tunnels out of Shawshank prison as well as exacting vengeance upon the crooked warden. Ever since my introduction to geocaching a few years ago the quest that Andy sends Red on at the end of the movie screams of geocaching...
Red is given instructions...
"...a long rock wall with a big oak tree at the north end. It's like something out of a Robert Frost poem. It's where I asked my wife to marry me. We went there for a picnic and made love under that oak and I asked and she said yes. Promise me, Red. If you ever get out... find that spot. At the base of that wall, you'll find a rock that has no earthly business in a Maine hayfield. Piece of black, volcanic glass. There's something buried under it I want you to have."
If you have never seen the movie, give it a try.
And while you're at it give being a "rockhound" a try too.
Here are some to give you a start... how hard can it be?
Congrats to Pajamashark for FTF!
