NCR6 - The IncrEDIBLEs Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Rose_Thorn: I can't find the container! I think the fence may have swallowed it up, but I will check again. Anyway, it's time to call it a day on this one now as I am putting out a new cache not a million miles away.

Geocache Description:

Bring your own pen. Easy cache next to a popular walking, cycling and horse riding trail. Please use stealth. You can get a baby buggy very close to the cache, so it's family friendly. No need to enter the field but you may have to stretch over the fence. Cache placed with permission from Incredible Edible Tottington, so please treat the whole field with respect and pick up any doggy do (bin at one gate in the field) as children use the area frequently.

This used to be the station yard in Tottington when the railway was in use. Digging the site for growing flowers and veg has been hard work, because of the underlying bricks, gravel and coal that remain from the times when the mills were still standing and the station was a hive of activity, transporting goods down the line into Bury and on to Manchester. Locally known as "the Lines", the Kirklees Trail (Sustrans route NCR6) follows the course of the old railway line from Greenmount down to Bury. The trail is open to cyclists, horse riders and pedestrians. Recent changes have made the route buggy/stroller/pram friendly, so it's ideal for a weekend walk with the family or traffic free bike ride with the kids. In the week, many local people use it as a commuter route for cyclists or pedestrians, including children going to school, so thumbs up to Sustrans for a great route!

The main activity that goes on now at the Station Yard is all to do with growing food, as part of the nationwide Incredible Edible network. They've made an impressive job of creating a brilliant community plot. Recent tree planting has been done by TWIGS, Tottington's Wildlife Watch group for children and young people (under the umbrella of the Lancashire Wildlife Trust).

I had help from a young newcomer to caching in placing this cache so please help by maintaining the stickoflage when you visit.

The slim container is camouflaged and just contains a log sheet.
