Town: Ottawa Station
Population:Approximately 5 ~ 10
Reason for Decline: Railroad through Ottawa Station was abandoned and the timber harvest wrapping up left the town with nothing
History: The village of Ottawa Station began in 1871 when the Chicago & Michigan Lake Shore Railroad laid track through Olive Township. The primary industry was logging, Pigeon Creek was the main power source for the mills. the village was granted a post office in 1871 and a year later the village was platted. In its boom years (1870's) the village boasted a railroad depot, lumber yard, hotel, two general stores, a post office, grocery & drug store, a school, and multiple sawmills. Today, the the once booming village is gone but, there are still some interesting remnants of the past. The village school was moved about half a mile down the road for use as a home. The Olive Township Historic Society has now purchased the building and uses it for meetings and events.
