KVARNER Cache 81 - Viewpoint Sopalj Traditional Cache

Nikrmana: Unfortunately there's been some continuing issues with this cache and there is no reaction from the owner. Thus as there is no option to replace the cache, I am archiving it. I'm also archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, please contact Geo Sova or Nikrmana by send email from their profile, with a cache GC number included. Assuming cache meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Kvarner Caches is a series of hundreds excellent locations with hidden caches in Kvarner region - Croatian best kept secret :)

KVARNER Cache 81 is located at the historic hiking trails above Kostrena. Those trails known for ages, with their total length of 10km, lead us through different periods of Kostrena's history. They are located in the highest areas of Kostrena, where two peaks are dominant: Solin and Sopalj, conquered and transformed into fortified settlements during the prehistoric era.  Sopalj, however, was founded during the Bronze Age, as a surveillance point for the gulf and the city of Bakar, mainly in the period of the Liburnian dominance in our region. Between these two villages (Solin and Sopalj), there are some traces of smaller observation points – Glavica, Kula and Humeina, which offer a magnificant view of the Kvarner Bay.

The hiking trail connecting villages Dujmiai and Sopalj has a special meaning: the same path was being used by Kostrena's inhabitants who attended the Nautical School in Bakar. The importance of this trail lies in its obvious connection to one of Kostrena's main historic traditions – the maritime affairs.
