CherryLand Traditional Cache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Don Olivio: Checked the other day, unfortunately it's missing. I didn't have a box to replace it. A local geocacher said, he'll do it. If you're visiting the village, and have a box with you, please replace it.

I would really like to keep this cache, it's my first one...

Geocache Description:

This cache will take you to the cherry-heartland of Transylvania...

Cireșoaia (official Romanian name), Magyardécse (in Hungarian), Bellsdorf  (in German) is a village belonging to Braniştea (Árpástó) commune in Bistriţa-Năsăud (Beszterce-Naszód) county in North-West Transylvania. It’s famous all over the country for it’s cherry: merchants from the North, the East, the West and even the South of Transylvania and Romania come here to buy the cherry.

At the end of June a Cherry Festival is organized. The tradition dates back to 1893 (!).

The Facebook page of the village is here. The blossom of the cherry in spring is... magnificent.

Both gates leading to the courtyard of the church are permanently opened.

The geocache was hidden with the knowledge and approval of the protestant priest. But don’t look for him asking where it is… :) But I presume you may seek a guided tour of the religious establishment: Mr. János FEKETE (his Facebook page is here) has some unique stories to tell – no wonder he’s been serving here for almost two decades…

Contents: pencil, logbook, the June 25, 2013 issue of the Szabadság, daily Hungarian-language regional newspaper, Bagoly könyvesbolt key holder.

(The cache has been placed with the assistance of VaVa and Didesz)
