James Monroe was one of six US Presidents named James.  He once chased his Secretary of State out of the White House with a pair of fireplace tongs.  He is one of three presidents who died on July 4th.  (The other two were Adams and Jefferson who died in the same year hours apart.)  The capital of the African nation of Liberia was named Monrovia in honor of Monroe.
