Martin Van Buren served previously as one of Andrew Jackson's vice-presidents. He was the first US President to be born a US citizen as all prior presidents had been born British subjects. Raised in Kinderhook, NY, he was nicknamed "Old Kinderhook," from which the expression "OK" is derived. It was used in support of his campaigns.
