Geocache Description:

NOTE: THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE ABOVE COORDINATES!

There used to be a cache stage at the final coordinates, but it's been archived. I'm recycling the location.

The response to my two recent puzzle caches has been sufficiently gratifying that I am encouraged to try again. In addition to orchestral music, one of my passions is history, especially military history. Many people can't stand names and dates, but I eat 'em up with a spoon. To obtain the correct coordinates for the final, you will need to answer some questions about battles. The answers should be given using the following format: N 40 14.ABC W 075 12.DEF. For example, for the question, "What is the last digit in the year of the Battle of Pearl Harbor?", the answer would be "1", because the Battle of Pearl Harbor was fought in 1941. Some of the battles below may seem rather esoteric to you, but they're all old friends to me. Unfortunately, you will be able to find the answers on the internet, instead of having to do your research the old fashioned way.

A. The last digit of the year Alexander Nevsky's Russians defeated the Teutonic Knights at the Battle on Ice. (I have the 1938 film with Prokofiev's great score).

B. The last digit of the year of the Battle of Lepanto. (Turkish seapower was crushed).

C. The last digit of the year of the Battle of the Somme. (Britain's bloodiest day).

D. The last digit of the year of the Battle of Midway. (Walter Lord's "Incredible Victory" is one of the most entertaining and thrilling books I've read).

E. The last digit of the year of the Tet Offensive. (I watched it on television).

F. The last digit of the year of the Battle of Agincourt. ("We few, we happy few, we band of brothers ...").

Eventually, we'll all find peace. Here's hoping you find the cache, which contains a log and a BIG $20 prize for FTF. BYOP. No credit without your signature. Park in the park lot.
