Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates but the following story about cachers who attended the Rally Riders Event cache (GC485Q0) will reveal the whereabouts of the cache.  The cache contains an artifact actually used on the rally!

Cachers converged on Milton on June 22 2013  for the second annual rally riders event (GC485Q0) .  After the scores were tallied, the crowning of the champion came down to a tie breaker between bushman and olianab.  It was a fun day and there were so many antics happening out on the road, that I decided it really should be summarized.

Some cachers like the Middle Earthlings had competed in the first annual rally and knew to come prepared for anything.  Like, Monkeys4ever they brought a brand new GPS similar to the one that dfx used last year.   Zorkmid and Geobob adhered to the theory that new equipment wasn’t necessary, as long as they had fresh batteries.  Still others, maintained that all they needed was an open mind and a good pen.  Clydeseeker even brought a backup pencil.

So the rally began with Windrush Warrior fueled by an adrenalin rush, scrambling to get an advantage over Cool easy cache who was intimidating him with a raised eyebrow.  Three kms into the rally, sparky500 made a critical mistake by following  Nordlich, who was actually looking for a place to buy some fresh bubble gum.   That gave res2100 an opportunity to advance one position which he enjoyed until tk2100 spotted a playground  that Bug Finders and Vier had stopped at.  As he pulled over for a quick swing, Jrholmes77 sped by, wondering if he had missed something and decided to stop too.  Clydeseeker and Drei had been following him and realized his error in judgement at pulling over.   Instead of stopping to set him straight, they snickered and took the opportunity to catch up to Zorkan Heneron  and Jensen & Ella who were making the car rally look like child’s play.  Meanwhile QTEEE had found her groove.  She found cache #1 without any of the trouble that Drei Weiter experienced.  She got a good laugh at the expense of them and  Bug Finders who thought the cache was behind the waterfall curtain when in actual fact it was down the well.  She teamed up with A&C Hildebrandt and together they convinced  Acht to go down and get it.

At km 14.2 TDfan had run into a predicament.  He was following two rallyers when suddenly, the car driven by Favorite Rodent turned left, while another navigated by Funf headed east.   According to his calculations, they should both be going straight for another ½ km.   He stopped to recheck his work just as YoungKingKole pulled up with his trusty navigator  Wichtige Null.   Together they decided which direction to follow.

Flinhi had been patiently waiting  at the first checkpoint, and was happy to see Neun arrive ahead of the pack.  They were apprehensive at first to try the tightrope walk over the gorge, but were determined to do it quickly and accumulate the best score.

Meanwhile Cach Cat would have been there first, but she misinterpreted the previous instruction and stopped to take someone’s flag from in front of their home.   Gegenteil von Osten saw her doing it and just shrugged it off and continued on his way.  When T4E  arrived at the checkpoint,  she was surprised to see that Nutzlos Null had gotten there before her since he was stuck in the mud up to his axles a couple kms back.   Fortunately sparkle and FreeSpirited1 came along and helped him out.

As the rallyers progressed, they eventually came to checkpoint #2.  Spyddercat’s ability to rope climb was demonstrated there as she beat the time of  Sieben by a full 4 seconds.  Unfortunately, Letzen Neun didn’t fare nearly as well and let go of the rope half way up, but was caught by Thebruce0 who was patiently waiting his turn on the ground.

Things really started heating up 27 kms into the rally.  Sargents and Ellesche2100 were positive that they had found the right road, but were surprised that it was a dead end.  While turning around they noticed something carved into a tree..”that darn dancer man got me lost here”. It was signed by burkbunch.   As they were leaving to get back to the right road,  Achtundvierzig and his navigator alli-oop passed them, making the same mistake.

As the rallyers progressed, they found their way to the second cache along the route.  TeamJL2 were the first to arrive at GZ and made the quick find, replacing it before WOZ and Letzen Vier came lumbering through the woods in it’s pursuit.  They too had it in hand but didn’t put it back in it’s proper place and kevnbri is still out there looking for it to this day!

Finally the navigators got their teams to the last checkpoint, where keck321 had been busily preparing lemon meringues for the pie eating competition .  This excited rogking who hadn’t lost one of these competitions since he was 4 years old.  He indeed did win it, but 3StarsandaSun gave him a good run for the money.

Letzen Funf and her navigator  Sechs were the last team to arrive at the end.  They stopped to pick wildflowers for the dashboard of their hippie van, so they had a good excuse for their tardiness.

At the end, most marriages were still intact!

Now…there’s enough information in this recap to find the cache.  After you’ve solved it and are going for it, if you see kevnbri  out there, tell him the rally is over!

The geochecker can be used to check your solution. FTF prize is a toonie.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Middle Earthlings who braved the darkness and rallied to the challenge. Not only were they on the actual car rally, but they made the FTF on the rally recap too. Nice going!!!
