The Spartans were famous throughout ancient Greece for their bravery, ruthlessness, and harsh lifestyle. From birth to death, Spartan males were groomed and trained for war. Seven year old boys were taken from their mothers to start training. The Spartan’s greatest triumph came in 480-479 B.C., when they fought a huge invading Persian army. The Greek city states, led by Sparta, joined together to defend their land.
