Sportdorp is een deel van de wijk Floriande, in Hoofddorp. In Sportdorp verwijzen alle straatnamen naar de Olympische spelen. Baron de Coubertin, was bijvoorbeeld een franse historicus en pedagoog. Hij richtte het Internationale Olympische Comité op, en staat daarom bekend als de vader van de moderne Olympische Spelen. Andere straatnamen zijn de Marathonstraat en de Atletiekstraat. Veel straten dragen ook de naam van bekende Nederlandse Olympische helden, zoals Sjoukje Dijkstra. Zij won in 1964 een gouden medaille bij het kunstrijden voor dames. Een ander voorbeeld is Kees Verkerk, die in 1968 goud won op de 1500 meter schaatsen. De belangrijkste en meest centrale weg in dit gedeelte van Floriande, is genoemd naar een beroemde atlete die in Hoofddorp heeft gewoond: Fanny Blankers-Koen. Zij was in 1948 de meest succesvolle atleet op de Olympische Zomerspelen, waar zij 4 gouden medailles won: op de 100 meter, de 200 meter, de 80 meter horden en de 4x100 meter estafette. Dit bereikte zij als 30 jarige moeder van twee kinderen; haar bijnaam in die tijd was dan ook ‘de vliegende huisvrouw’.

Sportdorp is a district in Floriande, in Hoofddorp. In Sportdorp all the streets refer to the Olympic Games. ‘Baron de Coubertinlaan’ (Baron de Coubertinavenue), for one, carries the name of the french educator and historian, who is considered the father of the modern Olympic Games. He founded the International Olympic Committee.
Other streetnames referring to the Olympics, are the ‘Marathonstraat’ (marathonstreet), the ‘Atletiekstraat’ (atlethicsstreet). Many streets carry names of famous Dutch Olympic Medalists from the past, like Sjoukje Dijkstra, a figure skater, and the 1964 Olympic champion in ladies’ single and Kees Verkerk, a speed skater who won gold on the 1500m in 1968. The most important, and central road in this part of Floriande, was called after a famous athlet who lived in Hoofddorp herself: Fanny Blankers-Koen. She was the most succesful athlete at the 1948 Summer Olympics. She won 4 gold medals at these Games: the 10m, the 200 m, the 80 m hurdles, and the 4x100m. She accomplished this as a 30 year old mother of two. Her nickname at the time therefore was ‘the Flying Housewife’.
