Bray Point Traditional Cache

            A large pull off south of Bob’s Creek named for Ira Bray gives you an expansive view of the Pacific Ocean for whale watching, viewing fishing boats, watching a meteorite shower, and a Geocache (Not a GRC!)

Ira Bray moved to Florence in 1880 from Indiana and staked one of the first homestead claims along Ten Mile Creek in 1891. He worked in the mines near Haceta Head until 1911, when he moved to Waldport after the death of his wife. One report indicated that he had served as the Indian Agent for the area around their homestead.

Ira and Georgiana Starr Bray (Nov. 7, 1860-Oct. 19, 1909 from Monroe, OR) had five children, with only four surviving. The fifth, Katie Myrtl Bray (Dec.17, 1889-Oct. 16, 1892) was “born in sight of this beach,” and is buried with her mother at Stonefield Beach just south of Bray Point.
