Geocache Description:

A matchstick container in an old, historic cemetery in Swansea. Permission has been given from the Swansea Historical Society for a hide here.

In 1924 the old burial ground was cut by construction of Rt 6 and graves were moved to the old section of the Thomas Cemetery. Obviously this entire cemetery isn't old and historic. In fact, some part of it are very new and there are some obvious signs of recent burials here. Scattered amongst the new stones are a number of old stones dating back to the late 1700's, so this cemetery has been here for a while! Names like Barney, Cole, Mason that were some of the original residents in town. Among the graves are Captains Daniel Davis and Richard Davis, Revolutionary War Captains Ambrose Peck and Peleg Peck - as well as Deacons Thomas Kingsley and Nicholas Thomas (who left the land for what is now the Baptist Church). (search at http://www.swanseamass.org/cemeteries.php for a partial list of the residents)

Please be respectful of graves when you find this one. It's hidden behind a grave but you can easily go around the stone in order to get to the tree the cache is hidden in. As mentioned earlier, you're looking for a matchstick container so please bring your own writing utensil.
