Picnic Details: BYOPL = Bring Your Own Picnic Lunch for everyone on your team. Please be aware that the associated field portion of this event will take place mostly in a forest setting, so you will need to equip yourself with whatever you require to feed and water yourselves from noon until as long as you plan to stay. There is no running water or washroom facilities available so bring your own drinks, hand washing supplies, first aid kit, medicines, toilet paper, and insect repellant.
Geocaching: Picnic and socializing etc. at 12:00 Noon EDT. Attendance at the event itself will be logable for a smilie on geocaching.com.
GPS coverage is available but we cannot guarantee that all cell phones will be able to connect with your voice, text or data provider in portions of this event area.
Other Helpful Info:
Sturdy footwear is highly recommended - avoid flip-flops and sandals.
Clothing with long sleeves and long pants would be beneficial for protection from insects and bushwhacking scrapes.
Bear spray or other deterrent of your choice is recommended for this area.
Arrive with lots of gasoline in your vehicle’s tank as there is none available once you leave Hwy 17 at Echo Bay or Bruce Mines.
Please ensure that you have a spare tire and tools to change a flat.
There are no washroom facilities available, so plan ahead on how you will handle those requirements. Bring your own porta-potty or go in the bush.
This event is not able to provide assurance that people with physical handicaps will be able to safely negotiate the uneven terrain. Associated geocaches are NOT stroller or wheelchair accessible.
There are NO picnic tables but there is a covered shelter available at the picnic event location.
Following the picnic there will be plenty of time to hunt for approximately 10+ permanent traditional geocaches of significant size. Don't expect to be searching for any micros in the bush :)
UNIQUE ACHIEVEMENT PRIZES: The first boy and the first girl (up to 12 years old and from separate teams) who shows the event organizers a photograph of one of the associated permanent, official, geocache containers will receive a genuine, ready-to-hide, camoed geocache container pre-loaded with logbook, pencil and swag. This is not a micro or nano sized cache, but a decent sized, small, waterproof geocache. So, bring a digital camera or cell phone capable of taking and displaying the required photo and let the competition begin :)
F.T.F. PRIZES: Each of the associated official geocaches will contain a special FTF 'token' that will prove that you were First To Find the cache. You can bring the FTF token to one of the Event organizers to receive a small FTF Prize.
