Geocache Description:

The Washington County GeoTrail (WCG)

Kick-Off Event - Hagerstown City Park

Everyone is invited to join us on Saturday,
September 14, 2013 - 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
at the West Pavilion in Hagerstown City Park
for the launch of the Washington County Maryland GeoTrail.

Welcome Geocachers! Hagerstown City Park is known as America's 2nd most beautiful park. Of course the first most beautiful is Central Park in New York City. The park was designed by landscape architect George Burnap who helped design some of the landscapes in Central Park. Do take some time to stroll this scenic park. Also feel free to visit any of the four museums located here - Museum of Fine Art, Mansion House, Hager House and City Park Train Museums.

Are you ready to Explore Washington County? Come visit municipalities and towns along the trail and learn about the rich history, culture and natural beauty of this Central Maryland crossroads. Whether you are an experienced geocacher or want to learn about geocaching, Everyone is welcome to join us for the launch of this exciting new Trail.

The Trail consists of thirty-five (35) geocaches placed at points of interest all over the County. Caches will be found in National, State, County and Town parks as well as at Museums, Wineries, Historical sites and places of natural beauty. A trackable geocoin will be awarded to the first 500 geocachers that complete the WCG.

To be eligible for the coin, geocachers must have a WCG Passport. Initial quantities of these will be available at the Kick Off Event in City Park and at the Washington County Visitors Welcome Center (6 North Potomac Street). A downloadable version will also be available from both the CVB and MGS websites on the Monday following the event.

To claim a WCG coin, geocachers must find twenty (20) caches, sign the cache logs, record the unique code word from each cache onto their passport and have the passport verified at the Visitors Welcome Center (6 North Potomac Street). We request that all family units, having more than one gc caching account, accept one (1) WCG coin for the trail. This enables us to spread the most smilies for our buck to those who visit The Washington County GeoTrail. We appreciate your cooperation.

Updates providing further details about this Event and The Trail will be added to this cache page, and announcements will be added to the logs below.

Update 7/26/13 - We are pleased to announce and thank those that have contributed caching-related materials for door prizes at the Kick-Off Event - Caching Containers.com; FTF Magazine; Geocaching.com; and www.landsharkz.ca

The Washington County GeoTrail wishes to Thank the Hagerstown Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau for their timely assistance with planning this adventure.

The WCG also wishes to thank the following hiders who spent countless hours in planning and deploying the caches – ALs Guide, Always Lost 00, Kitakima, LPYankeefan, nomaland, Snurt, tazscouter, and tiger77aam.
