Look up in the sky at night. 99% of what you see are stars. Sol is the closest star - its diameter is roughly 865,000 miles, and it contains over 99% of the mass of the entire solar system. It is basically a huge ball of plasma (and magnetic fields) converting hydrogen to helium through nuclear fusion, and in so doing emitting enough energy to affect everything for several light years. The sun is a typical G-type yellow dwarf star, about half way through an expected lifespan of more than 10 billion years.
This solar system model has placed Mercury approx. .9 miles from this location. All the other original planets have been placed in orbit at distances from San Jose that match the scale set with the planet Mercury. With this scale, "former-planet" Pluto is just a bit over 100 miles away. The sun would have a scale diameter within this model of about 127 feet, or roughly the size of this plaza.
The container is magnetic. This is Muggle Central. Please exercise caution and stealth, and be careful to return EXACTLY as found
This is a replacement cache for the original Northern CA Solar System Model: Sol, by shadow101 (and placed with his permission). Additional placement and support thanks for the series and this cache go to bthomas, TeamJiffy, TeamOttlet & buxley. .

FTF congrats to Sweetpea and Walkingbackwards. Extra points to them for going for the grab when it was 90F+ in the shade. Not quite as bad as walking on the sun, but a good facsimile. Now that's dedication!
