Geocache Description:

The Canada Day long weekend brings lots of folks to the area to participate in the various celebrations and to enjoy the Northern Ontario life.  We decided that this would be a great time to introduce visiting geocachers to Mill Lake.  This is the first cache for Hallm361 and Blackwiddow13  so we thought we would make it an easy one.

The cache is a small Lock & Lock plastic container.  It contains a log with a pen to sign it and it also has a number of small Canadian souvenirs for trade.  If you take an item from the cache then please replace it with a similar Canadian souvenir.  Geocachers from other provinces and countries are welcome to leave souvenirs from their areas as well.

Parking is available at the coordinates listed. Please use this public parking area so that access to the local campground and boat launch are not blocked.

Note: This can be a high muggle area especially on long weekends, so hunt with care. Please ensure that the cache is returned to its hiding spot and is well concealed.

Mill Lake Points of Interest.

Mill Lake is a dam controlled lake which is now operated by Parry Sound Power.  Years ago there was a strong logging presence on the lake and logs cut from the surrounding forests made their way down log flumes over several dams to the lumber mill located at the mouth of the Seguin River.

A government dock and boat launch are now located at the south end of Mill Lake which is accessible from Hall’s Quarry Road.  This can be a very busy spot, especially on long weekends.  Boating activity increases on the lake during these periods as Mill Lake is used for multiple boating and leisure activities. Also, some of the lake cottagers use this area to park their vehicles and launch boats to access their water access only cottages.

Nearby is Mill Lake Stone Quarry which contains a unique type of stone that is only found in Ontario at  this particular quarry.  The rock splits readily parallel to the grain and makes excellent flagstones. It was used as a building stone for the Parry Sound Court House, Waubuno Beach Pavilion, and Registry Office foundations. The quarry produces veneer, flagstone and dry-wall stone. The quarry recently received a designation from the Town of Parry Sound as a Heritage Property C.1907

Enjoy!! - Hallm361 & Blackwiddow13

Congratulations to 123buddylove321 for snagging the FTF!

Please note that the cache is just on the edge of private property managed by Blackwiddow13 and they welcome the placement of this cache.
