Priest's Tower

The south-eastern part of Macedonia is geocachers’ TERRA INCOGNITA! Let's explore this part of the country, blessed by God with natural beauty, diversity of landscapes, hospitable people and warm sun.


This cache will introduce you to one of the most popular wine regions in Macedonia. Hunting after this cache you will wittness an unforgatable scenic view and exclusive wine tasting experience. Do not miss it!


Demir Kapija (Turkish origin, meaning: Iron Gate) is a small town, located on the right bank of the Vardar river in east-southern part of Macedonia. It's the seat of Demir Kapija municipality and it's the smallest town along the river Vardar (about 3,200 inhabitants). Demir Kapija lies at an altitude of 110 meters above the sea level. The E-75 international route is passing by Demir Kapija, and connects Demir Kapija with Negotino (20km), Veles (50km) and Skopje (100km) on the north and Gevgelija on the south.

In the vicinity of Demir Kapija in ancient times there was a settlement with a Greek name Stenae (Gorge). Nowaday, in this place there is an archaeological locality Prosek.



The Demir Kapija surroundings are under the influence of the mediteranean (aegean) climate. It's also a national monument of nature and an ornithological reserve, home to many rare species of birds and endemic plants.

The most remarkable feature of the region of Demir Kapija are the vineyards. The climate and soil conditions are very favorable for wine production. There fore even the former Yugoslav King Alexander Karadjordjevic has owned big agricultural farm with vineyard of capacity of 150,000 liter and a summer villa Queen Mary in Demir Kapija.

About this cache:: Priest’s Tower, in Macedonian called Popova Kula, is a winery built to produce the highest quality Macedonian wine and offer quality wine tourism in the region. The Popova Kula Winery uses regional best grapes in creating wines that are well known among connoisseurs and wine lovers. However, not only wine experts and lovers visit this place. No one can resist the unique architectural beauty of the winery and the scenery view on surrounding hills. The Popova Kula has an own hotel, which offers unique experience to its guests with its distinct 4 suites and 7 rooms each decorated separately to represent our 7 types of wines.



How to get there: E 75 highway, exit Demir Kapija. At R1 turn right uphill. The distance from the highway exit to the Priest's Tower is about 2.5 km.

The cache is a small white plastic container.


Please, be very careful when getting out, logging and putting back the cache, in order to protect it of Muggles! In case of lost of the cache the owner can visit the location and restore it only 2-3 per year! Thanks.
