Geocache Description:

I have stopped to admire this barn many times, it's such a picturesque spot in the Kettle Moraine State Forest - Southern Unit.  I like that they haven't torn it down, even thought it doesn't seem to serve much of a purpose anymore than I can see.  I would love to write more on the history of this barn but I haven't been able to find anything.  I will continue to dig and update the cache page when I find any info but if there's anyone who knows anything, please post it in your log.  Just beyond the barn is a pretty, open meadow and in the fall when the leaves have turned colors this spot looks especially beautiful!

You can park at this barn long enough to enjoy the view for a minute or two and find the cache but you can't park there for an extended time. If you're planning to stay for a while to do some hiking please park in one of the many other parking lots in the area.

Kettle Moraine State Forest—Southern Unit
The Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, Wisconsin, almost to the city of Whitewater. Forest Headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.

This park was created to preserve and showcase the abundant topographical features in this area. In this park you will see many Drumlins (this is what the park is most known for), Eskers, Kettles, Kames and more.

Visitors to the park will find many things to occupy their time. There are many hiking, horse-back riding and biking trails. There are Picnic areas and campgrounds with a swimming beach. In the winter you can cross-country ski. Visitors may hunt and fish, according to the permits. There are historic sites to visit and nature programs to attend. There are many recreational opportunities, the best of which may be that there are lots of geocaches in the area!

The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to Amanda Prange of the Wisconsin DNR. Geocaches placed on Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource managed lands require permission by means of a notification form. Please print out a paper copy of the notification form, fill in all required information, then submit it to the land manager. The DNR Notification form and land manager information can be obtained at: http://dnr.wi.gov/files/PDF/forms/2500/2500-118.pdf
