Santuário da Peninha
 Localizado num dos pontos mais altos da Serra de Sintra, o Santuário da Peninha faz parte de um vasto conjunto arquitectónico formado pela antiga ermida de São Saturnino (fundada por D. Pêro Pais na época da criação do reino de Portugal) e pelo palacete romântico de estilo revivalista, que relembra uma fortificação e que foi construído no ano de 1918.
Esta ermida de dimensões reduzidas, 'escondida' em plena Serra, representa uma importante igreja de peregrinação, envolta numa atmosfera religiosa mágica, estando-lhe associada a existência de uma imagem milagrosa de Nossa Senhora.
Este local de culto, de aspecto exterior singelo, apresenta, na verdade, um interior riquíssimo, com mármores embutidos e revestido por azulejos brancos e azuis, surpreendendo quem conseguia até ali chegar.
A capela que hoje se pode encontrar terá sido construída no século XVII, por Frei Pedro da Conceição, contudo, a sua decoração terá sido levada a cabo até 1711, data que consta no painel de azulejos do tímpano, sobre a porta de entrada.
No seu interior, as cenas da Vida da Virgem predominam, registadas num conjunto de painéis de azulejo que reveste a ermida. Executados por diversos autores, os painéis do corpo da nave têm vindo a ser atribuídos a Manuel dos Santos, um dos pintores lisboetas que integrou o denominado ciclo dos 'Grandes Mestres', enquanto que os dois painéis que ladeiam a porta principal e o tímpano semi-circular, este último com a representação do Pentecostes (pouco comum na iconografia azulejar) foram desenvolvidos por Manuel Santos, que favoreceu o traço elaborado e pleno de contornos, revelando a influência da pintura de azulejos holandesa.
Na abóbada e rodapés, os painéis aproximam-se de uma concepção monogramista, atribuindo-se a criação dos da abóbada à oficina dos Oliveira Bernardes.
Também o mármore é um elemento de destaque e de grande recurso, que reflecte a preocupação pela modernização dos espaços, superando o gosto pela talha. É neste sentido, que se pode encontrar exemplares de diversas tonalidades na capela-mor, que data de 1690, e que se estendem até à abóboda de caixotões. No retábulo, encontram-se, igualmente, marmóreos finos, atribuídos a João Antunes, por terem grandes semelhanças com outros traçados pelo arquitecto de D. Pedro II.

Sanctuary of Peninha
Located in one of the highest points of the Serra de Sintra, the Shrine of Peninha is part of a vast architectural ensemble formed by the ancient hermitage of San Saturnino (founded by D. Pero Paes at the time of the creation of the kingdom of Portugal) and the romantic palace revivalist style, reminiscent of a fortification which was built in 1918.
This hermitage of reduced dimensions, 'hidden' in the Serra, is an important pilgrimage church, shrouded in a religious atmosphere magical, being associated with him the existence of a miraculous image of Our Lady.
This place of worship, the simple appearance, features, actually a rich interior with inlaid marble and stone tile white and blue, surprising even those who could get there.
The chapel which today can be found to have been built in the seventeenth century by Fray Pedro Conceição, however, the decor has been carried out until 1711, date in panel tiled tympanum over the entrance door.
Inside, the scenes from the Life of the Virgin predominate, recorded a series of tile panels lining the hermitage. Performed by several authors, the body panels of the ship have been attributed to Manuel dos Santos, one of the painters weekenders who joined the so-called cycle of 'Great Masters', while the two panels flanking the front door and tympanum semi- circular, the latter depicting the Pentecost (unusual iconography tiling) were developed by Manuel Santos, who favored the trait elaborate and full of contours, revealing the influence of Dutch painting tiles.
The vault and footers, panels are approaching a design monogramista, attributing the creation of the dome of the workshop Oliveira Bernardes.
Marble is also a prominent and great resource that reflects concern for modernization of spaces, surpassing the love of woodcarving. It is in this sense that one can find examples of various shades in the chancel, which dates from 1690, and extending to the coffered dome. In the altarpiece, are also fine marbled attributed to João Antunes, because they have great similarities with other outlined by architect D. Pedro II.
