Falsterbokanalen har en långsluss med 1000 meter mellan slussportarna. Vid extrema väderförhållanden kan det vara upp emot en meters nivåskillnad mellan Östersjön och Öresund. Vid sådana tillfällen blir strömmen inne i kanalen så hög att många båtar inte kan passera igenom. Slussen byggdes alltså för att underlätta vid dessa tillfällen.

The Falsterbo Canal has a long sluice with 1,000 meters between the gates. In extreme weather conditions, it may be up to one meter height difference between the Baltic and the Sound. At such times, the current in the channel is so high that many boats can not pass through. The sluice was built to aid at these occasions.
