South Shore Phrases is a series to honor some of the areas we have cached. Each description contains a colourful phrase that is reported to be used in or originated along the South Shore of Nova Scotia. All phrases were selected from the book The South Shore Phrase Book complied by Lewis J Poteet (published 1983).
Schoolmarm is a piece of firewood where two trunks have grown together and crossed. So called because "you'll never get them apart".
The phrase, "schoolmarm tree" is used for a tree in the shape of a Y. - Blanche
