We took a detour from Awakino, via Marokopa and on to Waitomo, called the "Heritage Trail". The view from the top of the hill here overlooking Marokopa, was just breathtaking. We had to place something here for other travelling cachers.
Road is tarsealed for about 40kms from Awakino End. Then its a wide unsealed road for about 20km to Marokopa. Then sealed road from there back to Waitomo. Cache is about 1.2 kms up from the Beach access. Big safe pullover at the top of the hill from either direction. Cache is just a mint tin, thats all we had in the car at the time. Has a waterproof log with stash note. BYOP. Left our new mega pathtag for the FTF prize. We found Marokopa to be a very interesting place. Lots of information boards down on the beach side. With history of the sinking of the "Albatross". Enjoy.
