Geocache Description:

This is the first of the Welcome To series, starting off in Sleaford.  Caches will be found in the vicinity of village signs and other interesting features.

The town of Sleaford is in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, located between Grantham, Boston and Lincoln.  It is a market town and has been since 1120.  The name means ‘ford over a muddy stream’ and comes from the Old English ‘esla’ and ‘forde’.  It is now known as the River Slea.  This river was the main trade route for many years and was canalised in 1794.  It was superseded by the railways in the 1850’s.

Sleaford is twinned with Marquette-lez-Lille (a commune in the Nord department in northern France) and Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf (a municipality in the district Märkisch-Oderland, in Brandenburg, Germany).

Bring your own pen. Small logbook so initials only please.
