Due to strong winds I never went out to Eggjarnas edge, so no pictures of the view is given.
The picture above is of Eggjarnar and was taken from below at Vágseiði outside Vágur.
But besides the cliffs it's also possible to explore the abandoned LORAN-A station that is up here. Now there are only the buildings left, since all the electronics and the masts has been removed. And the buildings is now used by sheep to get shelter. So beware of the 50 cm thick layer of sheep poop if you are thinking about entering the building at the roads end.
LORAN-A (LOng RAnge Navigation) was an navigational system for ships and aircraft's used before more accurate systems took over.
After the British occupation of the Faroe islands 2 April 1940 American engineers built the station and then the British military used it to guide their ships and aircraft's on the northern Atlantic.
After WWII the British troops left the Faroes and the Danes took over the LORAN-A station, and continued to use it until December 1977 when it was taken out of service.
Much more about the LORAN technology can be read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LORAN.
The road up
Eggjarvegur is the first road on the right side after the petrol station at the end of Vágsfjørdur. The road is narrow and full of potholes, so drive slow and carfully.
