This cache is located on the West end of River Street. There are a few caches on the East end (including my “Waving Girl cache - GC4CK1B) but I felt this end needed its recognition also, often overlooked but still has its charm also.
This historical street was a bustling seaport that housed most of the cotton and tobacco grown in the South as it was sold and shipped out to all parts of the world. Cobblestone streets, ghost stories, pirates and much more are to be found on this wonderful street. Can be a little touristy but still a must see while visiting Savannah.
While strolling the street you’re sure to see one of the huge container ships passing by. I have even seen many a dolphin cruising by in the river. Hotels, shops, restaurants, night clubs, riverboats, street musicians and the friendly Georgia people are just some of the things you will encounter on this historic avenue!
Another favorite especially for the young ones is the free Belles Ferry system which includes multiple modern, passenger-only ferryboats. These picturesque ferries, named for women who helped shape Savannah’s history, take passengers from the Trade & Convention Center landing to River Street and back, seven days a week from 7am to midnight. You can take bikes on the ferry and there are multiple Geocaches on Hutchinson Island also.
Parking availability depends on when you attempt this cache. The cache is located near a limited number of pay to park slots. Parking on nearby streets such as Bay Street is pay to park till 5 P.M. Free after 5 and on weekends.
As always be muggle aware as this area is rich with them!
