Geocache Description:

Here's a fun little solve on sight puzzle cache! The posted coordinates will take you to Gridley Circle. Within the circle you will discover four Spanish Cannons guarding the grave of Capt Charles Vernon Gridley, captain of the USS Olympia during the battle of Manila Bay in the Spanish American War.

After the Battle of Manila, through the offices of Hon. S. A. Davenport, then Congressman at large from Pennsylvania, four of the largest bronze cannons in existence, which had been captured by Admiral Dewey and Capt. Charles Vernon Gridley at Manila, were placed on Gridley Circle at Lakeside Cemetery in Erie, Pa. They arrived from the Cavite Naval Base at Manila on May 23, 1899 in Erie via the Lake Shore Railroad with headlines in the Erie Daily Times.

The cannons were proven to be of very high grade bronze, each cannon being twelve and a half feet long and estimated to weigh eight tons. Each cannon had been christened according to Spanish custom with its own individual name which was artistically engraved on it. The cannons were: Trajano, Yerraska, Manahem, and Hypocrates.

Now for the puzzle! Inside Gridley Circle you will find a beautiful historical plaque which gives a brief history of the cannons. The plaque also lists the names of each cannon and their compass orientation to which direction they face. Awesome you say? ..............Well the plaque is WRONG! OOPS !!

Your mission if you choose to accept it............is to figure out which cannon actually faces what way. You also want to take note of where and when the cannon was made. Once on site this shouldnt take you more than about 2 minutes to figure this out and answer a few questions. For all you "Gleaners"....I'm sure a photo of the plaque is available online.........It wont be of much help though!!

The final is located at: N 42 0A.BCD W 080 0W.XYZ.
