Attention!
Walk increased cautiousness at the airport. Do not cross the runway, pass round the area terminated by buoys. A taking-off or landing aeroplane will not be able to put on the break if you walk in front of it.
Introduction
This geocache was hidden here to make you happy if you love flying or are interested in aviation. The airport and the working club of Őcsény which is 10 km far from Szekszárd are wanted to be introduced. It is worth to visit here on organised working days which are held in every even weekends. The members of the club are very helpful and they are pleased to answer all of your questions. If you have not flown yet, you can try it here as well.
Access
Őcsény is easily approachable from Road 56, suggested access from Szekszárd-Szőlőhegy roundabout. If you arrive from north, go along the town of Szekszárd, then take the third exit to Őcsény on the roundabout. If you are a cacher from south, go to the roundabout and take the first exit. Parking lots are available right in front of the entrance of the airport.
The history of Őcsény Airport
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find so much information about its history.
Őcsény meadow was used firstly during the 2nd World War by German military planes. In September 1944, a bomb-carrier which was attacking Budapest reported that there was a German field airport near Őcsény and Decs.
Őcsény Aero Club has organised several competitions since its establishment. The Gemenc Sailplane Championship was held at first in 1973 and since then it is held permanently. In 2012, Őcsény was the organiser of the 57th National Sailplane Championship and it will set up the 18th Sailplane European Championship in 2015.
Joy flight
It is possible to try out different kinds of flying in Őcsény. A joy flight can be done with three passengers on board of an American Cessna 172. The duration and the route of the flight depend on the passengers but it can be told that 10-15 minutes are enough for the first experience.
Sailplane can give you another kind of experience. Flying by a sailplane needs more people’s synergistic work that’s why it can be tried out on organised days. These planes are released to the air by windlass or aircraft. It is usually enough to circle round Őcsény Airport.

The geocache
The cache is a normal sized one near to the hangar of the club. To access you will need something... To find this object will help you the cache.
If the gate is closed when you find the geocache but it seems there are some people at the airport, just go in. There is only a light lock on the gate which could be opened easily if you dive into the bars. The head and also the staff of the airport know about the geocache and we are pleased by their support that we thank.
