This is the second of caches from the Southington Historical Society with some Southington history for geo seekers.
The Town Green has been a center of interest in Southington since before it became a park in 1876. The Green holds memorials to all the service members from all of the wars. The flagpole monument was dedicated in 1919 and carries the names of service members for all wars through WWI. The marble monuments at the south end of the Green carry the names from subsequent wars. Also on the Green is the memorial lamp which was added at Southington's bicentennial in 1979. There were drinking fountains for animals at both ends of the Green during the days of horse- and oxen- drawn vehicles. Today, the Green is a gathering place for weekly concerts in the summer and activities during Apple Harvest Festival. The present Town Hall was built in 1941 on the site of the former Bradley House Hotel. The old Town Hall housed public offices and was a repository for public records, but also served as a venue for theatrical productions, dinners, high school graduations and even basketball games. If you are one of the FTF, enjoy a vintage scene takeaway. Hide the cache back as you found it, please.
