There is still a significant amount of wreckage at the site where a 2000 tonne cargo ship came aground after 45 years. Unfortunately the Irene was responsible for one of the worst tragedies to occur in the history of the lifeboat service.
The tragedy of the TGB led to the development of self-righting boats.
