The Texas Spirit Quest
is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.
There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries, tombstones and local lore.
There are close to 146 interments here, ranging from 1866 to 2012. Members of the Haywood, Hohman/Hohmann, Pursley, Quick, Ross, and Simon families have been laid to rest here, amongst many others. This appears to be primarily an Anglo site, with some Germanic representation. (There is also at least one Hispanic grave.) As well, there are more than a few graves for which nothing is known but a last name.
The site is fenced and has an unlocked (and almost unlabeled) gate, and as of the time of the cache placement it is in good shape. Overall, it is functional rather than aesthetically pleasing. You need not enter the grounds to make this find. As always, any refinements to the listed coordinates are welcomed.
