I am sure we all loved listening to a story being read to us. This fairytale (cache) is all about a group of dwarfs who mine in a forest on the edge of a great kingdom. Their names are Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Bashful, Sleepy, Sneezy, and Dopey. They ranged in height from Bashful who was tallest at 4 foot 3 inches down to Happy who was pleased to be only 3 foot 1 inch. These guys had lived many years together in a little cottage which had missed its spring clean for the past 5 years.
One evening as the miners approached home they saw smoke rising from the chimney of their cottage. Bashful hurried forward and flung open the door forcefully yelling ‘who is in here’. (they never bothered locking it as they never saw anyone this deep in the forest). Once they were all inside they were shocked by the sight of a clean and tidy living area. It was Happy that saw the pot on the stove and called the others over to check it out, ‘its ready to eat now’ he said as he dipped a finger in and licked it. Suddenly they heard 2 noises that made them all freeze. Doc motioned towards the stairs and the ceiling. They all crept up into the bedroom where they found a beautiful lady asleep lying across three of their beds pushed together.
‘That’s the best thing I have ever seen in this room’ whispered Happy and for the next 5 minutes they all stood there and nobody said ‘a word’ they just stared, wide mouthed, at the beautiful lady.
Eventually Doc walked forward and whispered ‘wake up….wake up sleepy head’ but she did not move. From back amongst the rest of the dwarfs came a noise that did the job. ‘Ahh Ahh Ahhhhh CHOOO’. Snow White sat up and then shuffled back from the group gathered around her. Bashful came forward holding a fire poker and pointed it at Snow White. ‘What are you doing in our home’ he demanded.
Snow White burst into tears and started telling the Dwarfs about how she had been nearly killed by her stepmother who had paid an axeman over 1 thousand dollars to cut her heart out. But the axeman did not have the heart to kill her so had taken back a pigs heart instead. Snow White was now homeless and explained that she thought that if she cleaned and cooked, then she may be able to stay here for a while.
Doc invited her to stay and suggested that they all ‘head down and sample their guests cooking’. Dopey, ever the intelligent one, then asked ‘so what are we having’ to which grumpy quickly gave him a punch on the arm as he replied ‘stew you egg’. They all laughed and settled down to a cozy evening getting to know Snow White.
Sleepy made Snow White a bed on the couch after dinner and then the 7 lads went upstairs and got into bed. Just after Dopey turned off the light Happy randomly spoke up and said ‘I loved that stew, I think it will be nice having Snow White around’. They all smiled and drifted off to sleep to have pleasant dreams.
Life was good in the cottage for the following 2 weeks as Snow White tended to the chores around the home and the Dwarfs came home to a 3 course meal every night. Life was healthy and bliss, that was until the magic mirror informed Snow Whites stepmother that she was still only the second fairest in the land as Snow White was still alive. The evil Stepmother sent 6 hunters to kill the axeman who had stolen her money. Then she devised a potion hidden in an apple to put Snow White into a deep sleep. She disguised herself as an old hag (which didn’t require much work) and headed out into the forest.
When she arrived at the cottage the door was answered by a dopey looking little man ‘G-G-Good afternoon I-I-I mean morning’ said the dwarf. The old hag introduced herself and explained that she was on a long trek and down to her last apple. Dopey stepped aside and said ‘come on in, Snow White will look after you, We are just off to work’. The 7 dwarfs took their picks and headed out the door.
That day they decided to knock off at lunchtime and go home to surprise Snow White. As they walked back Happy picked 4 wild roses and said ‘these will make Snow White smile’. He wanted rush inside and give them to Snow white but as always bashful thundered up and smacked open the door. When they got inside they found Snow White lying motionless on the floor by the table. She was holding an apple she had taken 2 bites of. ‘I’m so jealous of her’ said Sleepy and they went over to surprise her but they soon found that nothing they tried could wake her. She was in such a deep sleep that they believed she was dead.
The dwarfs could not bring themselves to bury the beautiful Snow White so they made a glass coffin and placed it in a lovely part of the forest. Can you find it?
